How a Father’s Motto Became a Lifestyle “Just Rip It”

As a past teaching professional and avid learner of the game there are those moments that stick out as important, getting the opportunity to speak with Andrew Hite of Just Rip It was one of those moments. Through him his dad, a PGA Professional taught me a lesson, a lesson I understood very well as a child but have failed to remember as an adult.

Just Rip It is not just something the Hite family says it is what they live by, it is their brand. The Just Rip It golf shop is located at Dominion Meadows Golf Course in Colville, Washington. Colville is about an hour and a half northwest of Spokane, Washington. Andy Hite, the father of three sons and a PGA Professional since 1992 taught his sons and his students the fundamentals of the game, while also reminding them to: JUST RIP IT!

Andrew Hite, the middle of the three brothers, is the co-Founder of Just Rip It, the brand. I reached out to him through Instagram with great interest in what I had watched unfold over the past year on social media and on their website, and he graciously accepted. What I learned about JRI and how they have created this brand around an already existing lifestyle was so much more then I had ever imagined.

ANDREW HITE

Andrew grew up hanging out on the golf course with his family. They mostly hung out at their dads’ course at Dominion Meadows Golf Course in Colville, Washington. This public rural golf course was a great place to hone ones skill, and I would imagine it still is. In the 90’s and early 2000’s there were not as many junior events and even less jr. leagues, this is especially true in a rural setting. For Andrew and his brothers to have competition they played in the men’s group at a young age. Learning how to play golf and be competitive while knowing you will not be able to keep up distance wise is one of the best ways to learn how to play.

Even when he was a teenager Andrew recognized that wearing golf apparel was not the “cool” thing to do, unlike almost every other sport. He studied Sociology in college and his background is very heavy in retail including Foot Locker and Duluth. These retailers gave him experience in a retail setting where he learned how apparel made it to the sales floor from the manufacturing on up.

JUST RIP IT, “IT’S A MINDSET”

Just Rip It, the brand, started as a YouTube golf instruction idea. Realizing that Just Rip It could be so much more, Andrew told his dad that they were going to make Just Rip It into a brand. Sticking with the key pillars in golf and utilizing the teachings of his father Just Rip It, a brand was born.

“The ethos of JRI is to be a brand that anyone can enjoy” Andrew Hite. The main points of emphasis for JRI

  • Keep manufacturing as local as possible
  • “Game of golf needs to be respected”
  • Brand that all can enjoy
  • Focused on Green Grass, Golf Courses as retailers
  • It’s more than a game it’s a Lifestyle

Just Rip It has stuck to these points of emphasis since their inception 3 ½ years ago. If you look at their website and social media, you will find some great looking t-shirts that are

designed to show off golf in a way that even a teenager would think is cool. Giving the kid or adult who want to show off their pride for golf a “cool” way of showing it. Their “Slacker” polo is no different, as they embrace the northwest relaxed culture into a great looking shirt.

This performance-based flannel polo was designed from the ground up in Spokane, Washington. The name “Slacker” comes from the slacker movement that followed the grunge band of the 90’s, Nirvana.
