After 36 holes we have three tied at the top at (-9) Troy Merritt, Kyoung-Hoon Lee, and Martin Kaymer.
Martin Kaymer has not had his best year on Tour so far. Thru 36 holes he finds himself T1 while also posting 2nd in putting and T1 in short game totals. If he keeps up his short game along with his 75% fairways hit he should be there in contention on Sunday. Troy Merritt who had a medical scare after his win at the Barbasol last year in Lexington, Kentucky. Troy shot a smooth 31 on the front 9 which included an eagle on the par 5 seventh. Troy is first in tee to green and was 78% in fairways hit. Kyoung-Hoon Lee is looking for his first win on Tour since going professional in 2010. He has posted two top 10’s this year, if he can continue to hit GIR at an 86% clip he will definitely stay in contention.
Just behind the three tied at -9, Jordan Spieth has seemed to find his groove since the PGA Championship. Jordan finds himself going into the weekend in second place after shooting a 70 (-2), and posting a 36 hole total of -8.
The biggest mover of the day was Justin Rose who blazed a trail on the front nine after bogeying the third hole he shot a pair of eagles on the fifth and seventh holes. With a solid 63 (-9), Justin now finds himself in contention after sitting at +3 last night, he is now going into the weekend at -6.
Notables who missed the cut: Rory McIlroy, Matt Kuchar, Jason Day, Phil Mickelson, and Justin Thomas.
